All you need are a few syringes, a source of HP approved Ink, and some 
tiny round rubber balls.

Mr Ink Jet in Woodway TX sells starter kits and bulk ink at reasonable 
prices. I found him thru a Google search for Bulk Ink.

The kits are specific to printer model as are the inks.

The HP Biz InkJets are almost all 8.5 inch wide paper path. There are a 
couple of models that take 11 inch wide paper.

The least expensive model with individual ink cartridges is the HP 1200D 
Biz Inkjet. 150 sheet capacity, PCL6, USB and bidirectional parallel 
port. $199 Suggested Retail. Step up to the 1200Dn for $50 more and it 
comes with Ehternet connectivity.

I have a 2230 equipped as a 2280. I bought the Postscript EIO option on 
eBay for about 1/2 the price that HP was charging.

The replacement model for my printer is the 2300. Base price for this 
model is $499.

Check the HP.COM web site and check eBay. refurb models of these 
printers are often available for much lower prices on both sites
