""We fought back, but our local defence battalion was short of
heavy weaponry ƒ ” we had only two trucks and 650 men," said Iliyev.
"The Armenians were well equipped and they were assisted by the
Russian 366 Motorized Rifle Regiment. As a result, we took enormous
casualties.""
& nothing has changed there. Which is why you & yours are so
"welcome"
in Baku.
& it's why the Russian FM'es etc tend to visit both as a way of
increasing their "influence" when they come south for a meet & greet.
Listen to us or we'll be even nicer to the Armenians (if talking to the
Azeri)/We'll be less nice to the armenians (if talking to the Armenians).
It's ye olde "play both sides" tactic.

"There were also a number of serving SAS types frequenting the Baku
bars, and one quickly knows enough not to ask them why theyƒ ™re in town.
Although I suppose that some of them are also keenly interested in keeping
an eye on Azerbaijanƒ ™s southern neighbor, Iran."
Ey up it looks like the hereford boys are in town....possibly they're just
there for R&R from Iraq....
"I have been told that the CIA is hoping to use Azerbaijanƒ ™s
newfound prosperity and freedoms to incite Azeri nationalism south of their
border. Constituting one-third of Iranƒ ™s population, any separatist
movement on the part of the Azeris would deeply destabilize the Tehran
regime. Not that America ever plays such games, of courseƒ |"
Of course....esp given similar comments you've made here.....
But hey Iran would respond with an Islamist "threat" so....
