The ink cartridge has a chip in it. I know from bitter experience that
it counts the number of power on insertions that it sees. Once the magic
figure has been reached, the printer says that the cartridge is EMPTY
even though you JUST put in a full, refilled cartridge.

The combo cartridge/printhead models on the popelar ink jets DO have a
reset mechanism. The HP 10/11/12 cartridges used in the Bix Ink Jets do
not at present have such a reset function known to man. THe
refillinstructions.com web site does accurately describe how to refill
these cartridges, but fails to mention this power on insertions issue.

You may have a max of 25 refills before needing to replace the cartridge
IF you consistenetly power down the printer BEFORE inserting a refilled
cartridge. Yes it is tempting to do a power on insertion because the
print job can continue, versus restarting the job. In almost EVEY case,
it is wiser to power down the printer swap ink cartridges, power up, and
restart the print job!!!

Given that a new cartridge costs $34 plus tax, and a refill costs you
maybe $2 plus the time to do it, the math is CLEAR.
