Hello Wayne -

CA>> I can admit the people who had problems after using FIPS

CA>> That is a good point.

WC> oh yeah it's also suggested you xcopy/s it to a system
WC> diskette and run it from there.

I will keep all of your advice in mind if/when I ever try to
use it. Hopefully I will plan ahead and not have to repartition
after once doing a setup install cycle. ;-)

WC> I've go a backup copy and Explorer will never beon this
WC> machine.

It's unfortunate in a way that IEx is such a pita in many ways.
It does a nice display of webpages and the colors used but it's
just so underwhelming in other respects and so bloated it's an
embarassment.

WC> Another save, I'll snag it. Thanx again.

You're welcome.

CA>> 256 seems enough for my brother's W98SE install.

WC> 98 will install on an NEC Pentium 180 with 16 meg RAM, I

WC> the H.P. I swapped out drives and installed it on the NEC.

Grin. I was referring to my brother's need to do graphics in
PhotoShop and his enjoyment when creating variations of his
commercial CD-audio collection with _only_ the tracks he likes
and other software that requires a bit of memory to use
effectively.

WC>> I looked at the screen shots, impressive to say the least.

WC> Haven't checked all that out but IIRC supports JAVA.

JAVA or javascript? Javascript (js) needs to be at a certain
level and I'm not even sure what is the latest version but I
know you want better than v1.2 js.

CA>> I think for HP machines this is 'shared memory' meaning it
CA>> reduces available system memory?

WC> Not sure don't care, slap a HDTV - Video card in there and
WC> problem solved.

I have no experience with TV vid cards at all.

CA>> I'm not certain that W98SE will use FAT16? I know Alan
CA>> Zisman has said he kept the first partition as FAT16 for
CA>> W95 but used FAT32 on all other partitions. It was to keep
CA>> his old DOS utilities alive and working which would

WC> I don't have 98SE but vanilla 98 and I can do 95 just fine
WC> as the NEC machine is just the right age to support all
WC> the hardware.

Hmmmm ... seems to me full USB support was added with 'SE'? You
might want to ask about the FAT16 and USB in the W95 echo?

WC>> Still telneting off the NEC and surfing off the H.P. Hey
WC>> if I remove the base from this monitor I can fit both
WC>> machines on that cart!

CA>> Take note of the postioning of the casters. If they are
CA>> too far inboard the cart might tip?

WC> Not likely, this is a heavy duty stainless steel job of the
WC> type nurses wheel around with medications or defribulators
WC> and I doubt they'd want a defribulator hitting the floor.
WC> As long as the wheels can move I can't see any
WC> circumstances where it'd tip over.

Well nothing in the bottom and everything on the top would be a
start?
