I stopped considering purchasing non-Intel chipset motherboards after
trying several for use with AMD chips and having various LSI SCSI
difficulties with OS/2, and BIOS upgrades failed to improve anything.
NAICT, IBM is an Intel shop, which means better testing of drivers and
kernels with Intel than with other. Even this hasn't been entirely
successful. Of the three Intel chipset motherboards I bought since
ceasing to try non-Intel, one of them, Abit AI7, never after several
Award/Phoenix BIOS updates would boot anything except a floppy if an LSI
SCSI host was installed that had no hard disks attached. So, don't rule
out a BIOS problem even if a BIOS upgrade doesn't change anything.
