Pardon me for playing village idiot, Richard, but I don't see the
conflict here. If you model the 4-D universe as the surface of a balloon,
you can say that the surface is finite in some ways but infinite if you
consider the surface of the balloon itself. I don't see how a universe
cannot be finite but also have tons of infinities.
Furthermore, when considering the physical universe, whatever it is,
I do not see how a logical argument can override an empirical one.
The universe is whatever it damned well wants to be, regardless of
whatever we large-brained hominids want it to be.
