From new information I have gleaned over the last few days, it would appear
that using what is called a "dial-in" or "terminal" server, a telenet session
is not needed. One program called Terminal Server that I have read the docs
on, apparently can be run after a front end mailer, so that it passes the hot
com port to either a local PPP session or to your regular BBS
software.......the registration price is a little more than my pocketbook
could stand right now though. :( There also seems to be a couple more
available which I still have yet to check out.

The only real problem I forsee with using present day net tools is being able
to run door programs.........might be a bit on the tricky side getting my BW
and Xpress mail doors to work!
