RM>Just remember that TOS' FX were state of the art at the time. They're
RM>only "cheesy" etc. compared to 30 years of computer progress.
Perhaps I am old fashioned here, (I bet that I am), but I don't
look to FX for entertainment. I look for story. Good FX are a bonus,
but they don't save you if the show is stupid. That's why I refused to
watch SeaQuest DSV when it was in production.
I looked at the sets, the production value and the costumes.
etc, and my only thought was "What a Trek Series I could make with
that!". But the stories in DSV were *dumb*, and so all that money was
wasted.
BTW, I was wrong about DSV and making a good Trek series. Not
that the money and effort wouldn't but I have only produced one public
access fifteen minute segment, I know for certain that if you through
me on to the Paramount lot with the instructions to "Get it done" that
I would sink without a trace. It's harder than it looks.
RM>JPH> "The Corbomite Maneuver" I figure would be rejected as a
RM>JPH> Voyager episode for being too slow. Not enough explosions, and Kirk
RM>JPH> doesn't punch or shoot a single person during the whole episode!
RM>There are, unfortunately, a lot of fans who would reject it for the same
RM>reason (in fact, I think that may be one reason why fans my kids' age
RM>aren't terribly fond of TOS). Instead of watching the ep for its point,
RM>they want nothing but big bangs and flashy FX.
RM>If that's all there is to Trek, I'll go watch a fireworks display.
My point is that VOY seems to be aiming that way and it's
Not-A-Good-Thing.
