You are sure right on the hilly terrain. That is what I have here.
Hills, nothing very high but they are high enough to require down
shifting in order to negotiate them. The lower gears and longer
peddling times build up a lot of Kinetic energy going up, then
you can coast like the wind going down the other side. I tried
upshifting and peddling the same rate going down hill. The only
problem with that is the fact that you build up too much speed
and the roads are narrow and sometimes a little rough so I
usually coast a while so I do not get going too fast. If I had
a blowout or lost control going 35 or 40 miles per hour, I
can well imagine that I would be injured pretty badly, so I
ride a little slower. I am getting to old to spend any more
time in the hospital growing new skin and letting bones heal.
