I have not actively shopped for a Shortwave radio for years. I
own the sony icf 2002 and an icf-sw1
Both are good radios in their class but the sw-1 is a battery
glutton.
Things to consider when you buy are:
do you want ssb or cw capability? that usually ads to the price.
For shortwave broadcast listening, most radios will work ok.
Does pay to have an external antenna.
My theory is if Sony made it, it is probably good. Do look for
things like line out jack if you want to record or feed your home
stereo.
Friend was over one day and asked what station was on. I said
she'd find out shortly. She said she supposed she would.

had the sw radio hooked to my stereo and it is amazing the sound
quality on a good sw signal. Like you'd have thought Big Ben was
within earshot.
