Maybe he meant industrial air compressors?  
After all, many audio products from CD label screening machines through high
speed cassette duplicators wouldn't function without them.

ps:  Those non-ASCII segments of attibution lines show up as garbage to most
Zone 1 systems in this echo, while non-ASCII in Origin lines is a violation 
f
their spec's as found in FTS-0004 and FSC-0074.  (Zone 2 *C's may be poor 
about
enforcement of such spec's, but Fido is based on American English as is 
obvious
to anyone reading P4 as required to join everywhere in the world.)  Note that
high order alternate character sets are NOT pure ASCII.
