| subject: | IBM and Itanium |
Was reading that IBM is dicontinuing it's optimization of Linux to use the new Itanium chip from Intel. Why? IBM said they realized that Intel/HP were _forced_ to continue optimization of Linux for the Itanium so why should IBM bother? Being 'opensourced' they will just grab up what Intel/HP come up with and run with that. Meanwhile it frees up their people to work optimizing Linux for _their_ next chip. I normally could care less if one corp beats another corp to a bloody pulp but this really left a bad taste in my mouth. It annoys me to no end that RedHat has created millionaires that didn't have to even write or pay for what they are selling, then the 'Lindows' scam, and now this. Am I the only one that sees this whole opensource thing as having a negative side to it that is growing faster than the positive side? So-called opensource is rapidly becoming an unpaid source of revenue for the already rich. Please don't bring up Microsoft's whining about opensource, I know about it and it's not what I mean here although it is a factor it's not the only factor. > > , , > o/ Charles_Angelich - DOS Ghost \o , > __o/ > / > www.undercoverdesign.com/dosghost/faf/ < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
