Hi Jon,

Once upon a time any external modem was virtually guaranteed to work
with OS/2, but unfortunately that is no longer true.

I bought an external 56K V90 Aopen [can't remember the model # - now -
as I took it back] assuming it was a real modem, but it wasn't - the
actual casing was clear plastic with a row of LEDs visible inside -
slightly frosted there - and the PCB was visible looking through the
plastic base.

I ended up replacing it with an inexpensive external D-Link DFM-560E+,
Data/Fax/Voice modem, also V90 but upgradable to V92 and can highly
recommend it. Didn't say on the packaging that OS/2 [or DOS] was
supported, but OS/2 works fine with it using Injoy/ISDNPM/IBM-DOIP.
