Whoa! What are you saying here--that any bird that makes it across the
borders into the US is suddenly legal? NOT! Better check with USFWS if
you think that's true, or else you could get in some BIG trouble very
easily.
There are even laws in certain states that restrict or prevent ownership
of certain species--California, for example, won't allow Quaker parrots
into the state.
As far as *I* know, grey cheek parakeets are not illegal anywhere, but
they ARE becoming hard to find. But if someone DOES find one, and it
was not hatched and raised here (and closed banded), they need to be
SURE it got into the country LEGALLY...
Possessing smuggled birds can get you into BIG trouble, even if you
didn't know they were smuggled (kind of like buying stolen property--
it's still "hot", even if you didn't know it was).
