I just finished reading DETECTIVE by Arthur Hailey, author of books such
as AIRPORT and WHEELS.  It is not quite in that riveting category, but
is a good read.  It concerns a serial killer, and the one murder hidden
among his kills, the double murder he didn't commit, and the detective
who finds out who did commit it.  The reader knows who did it, as we are
shown the entire set up, the reason for the murders, and the means the
murder uses to carry it out, and still have an airtight alibi.  And the
error which causes the whole cloth of deciet to fray apart...  There is
an ironic twist at the end.  And there is an outline of the means used
in real- life cases to solve crimes which have been in the headlines.
