My dad used to tell a story.. Supposed to be true:
Time: Just after the big bank crash that started the great depression:
State: Nebraska (Do they have mountains in NB)
Scene. Trucker (Cattle hauler) has taken a load of cattle to market
from the local farmers. He is now returning to base with a box of cash
on the seat behind him. You see. the people trusted the truckers more
than they did the bankers back then.
(Aside note: Considering some of the stories I've seen about bank
mis-managment, A friend who was just fired, Bank officers being
indicated for fraud, And assorted bank and S&L scandals we've had in the
last 10-20 years I suspect I'd rather trust the truck driver myself)
Well, as he's going down the mountain (Switch back kind of road) a car
pulles up beside him, Passanger window open, Shotgun suddenly appears
and the passanger (Shotgun rider) says "Just drive till we tell you to
stop and nobody gets hurt"
Well shortly they went around a right hand hairpin turn. Now you know a
semi truck has to take those turns a bit wider or the trailer rubbs up
against the side of the mountain.
Well the driver took it so wide that his outside duals were rubbing
against the guard rail
You know where that left the gunman and the car he was dying in.
Trucker then proceeds to the sleepy little town that is always at the
bottom of these roads and visits with the sheriff, Telling him what
happened. The sheriff says "It's too bad they keep trying to take those
curves too fast" and closes the case.
What can I say...... Speed kills
(If the car had not been going faster than the truck they would not have
died) Sheriff did find the shotgun in the wreck
