The business inkjet printers 1100, 3000, older 2300s use separate ink 
cartridges from print heads.

The print heads are not permanent, they need replacement too, but at 
MUCH longer intervals than the ink cartridges.

The ink cartridges in these printers are simple to refill, but the 
little chip in the cartridge cannot be reset, so the printer will always 
show that the ink cartridge is empty. When it truely gets empty, the 
printer will stop what it is doing and INSIST that you replace the ink 
cartridge. I now have over 60,000 pages printed on the 2350 that I have 
and I have replaced ONE print head.
