CD, no; DVD-RW, quite possibly. DVD burners with doze are generally
recommended to have CPU MHz of 800 or better. They can put a lot of
activity on the bus(es).

That problem so far is generally reserved for Linux users.

Motherboards probably will stop having PATA before too long. The one I'm
using to type this supports only 2 PATA devices on one channel (ICH6),
though it supports 4 SATA plus 4 more HD only PATA on separate ITE RAID.
