ÚÄÄøú. Hans Mangold whispered this to Dave Raymond...
³ DR> My point was simply that, I don't believe that native Win95 comm apps
³ DR> would function, without a modem driver installed. I have not tested
³ DR> this and may be wrong. Agreed, the modem itself, as a piece of
³ DR> hardware, being a true, fully functional modem, does not require a
³ DR> driver, per say. But, under Win95, will those native Win95 apps
³ DR> utilize it?
³ You are close to the correct answer, but "native" is not quite correct.
TAPI
³ "Telephony Application Interface" programmes look at Win95 for modem
support.
³ Even then, it would not be quite correct to refer to "drivers" in the
³ traditional sense, rather "information files" (*.inf, simple text files).
³ But some native programmes, like the great ZOC (for Win95), can stand on
thei
³ own feet without TAPI support. ZOC allows the user to enter modem
informatio
³ directly, e.g. init string, baud rate, flow control/hand shaking, etc.,
where
³ TAPI programmes (Hyperterminal being one example) rely on Win95 for all of
th
³ information.
ÀÄÄ.úø Out of the stillness, The Electric Head said this...
hmmmm....a few posts ago....I said Win95 wouldn't use the modem if no driver
at all (the .INF file)....I tried using Procomm+ 1.02 for Windows (a 3.1
carryover of mine) and it would NOT "see" the modem at all....But when I
started up Telix (or the BBS)(both DOS based programs), it ran fine, even in
a DOS box......
If I'm correct, Procomm+ 1.02 came out waaay before Win95 did...before TAPI
support...so it should have NO problem with the modem (it was an old 14.4
with no install disks or whatever)...
Oh well....heh...my solution was to (finally) upgrade to a 33.6 Supra Express
PnP....worked like a charm....heh...went and bought a Boca 33.6
too...installed even faster then the Supra (had to do multiple reboots with
the Supra - the Boca, just one reboot so "changes could take effect")
Cya!
