Looking at some of the CMOS options in this one machine here (Award BIOS), 
I see a couple of things I don't understand on the Chipset Features page. 
What the heck are "Peer Concurrency",  "Passive
Release",  and "Delayed Transaction"?  All are currently
"enabled",  for whatever that's worth...
