JPH> I am not an original fan (I became a hard core trekkie during
JPH> TMP) but I watched the TOS avidly (One of my first memories is the
JPH> scene in "By Any Other Name" when you see the Enterpise heading for
JPH> Andromeda)
That's a good ep - especially when Kirk has to decide whether to let
Scotty destroy the E.
JPH> I will cheerfully concede the idea that TOS is the source and
JPH> starting point. I just don't think that cheesy set designs or motor
JPH> oil Klingons are the core of what's valuable about it.
Just remember that TOS' FX were state of the art at the time. They're
only "cheesy" etc. compared to 30 years of computer progress.
JPH> "The Corbomite Maneuver" I figure would be rejected as a
JPH> Voyager episode for being too slow. Not enough explosions, and Kirk
JPH> doesn't punch or shoot a single person during the whole episode!
There are, unfortunately, a lot of fans who would reject it for the same
reason (in fact, I think that may be one reason why fans my kids' age
aren't terribly fond of TOS). Instead of watching the ep for its point,
they want nothing but big bangs and flashy FX.
If that's all there is to Trek, I'll go watch a fireworks display.
