A training area for practice with live ammo qualifies as a practice range.
I don't know what else you would call it.  At that, what on earth were they
doing practicing firing live ammo in a war zone?  Had they never fired live
ammo before?  And what on earth possessed them to do that at night . . .
again in a war zone?

The whole thing never made any sense.
