PE>> BTW, I am planning on taking out the "automatic
routing" of people's
PE>> names. What this means is that if someone sends a message to "Paul
PE>> Markham" at 3:711/934, it won't go anywhere, they have to go
PE>> 3:711/934.1 instead, since that is Paul's point address.

RS> I dont think that is a good idea at all. Most of my netmail arrives
RS> without the point address appended and most of the files of text
RS> describing how to netmail dont mention the point address stuff.

PE> How do you know it gets there without the point number? You
PE> shouldn't be able to tell, since Squish remaps it PUTTING IN THE
PE> POINT NUMBER AUTOMATICALLY anyway (at the moment).

I forget, isnt it visible from the history stuff ? I havent got any
handy to scrutinise.

RS> I think thats such a microscopic chance that its far better to treat
RS> that as a special case. Particularly as the new approach doesnt even
RS> fail safe. Extremely undesirable to do things like that with
RS> something as important as netmail.

PE> Well the netmail will remain in my netmail area, and I could check
PE> that occasionally.

I still think thats far too crude and grotty. By definition the netmails
can be a moderator with his knickers in a knot and things could get
pretty sticky if the netmail get held up for a long time.

PE> If people just reply to one of your echomail messages through an OLR
PE> or even online, I suspect it will automatically put in the point
PE> number anyway.

Nope, almost no OLRs do anything automatic with outgoing netmail. Rods
does, and its close to being unique apart from point stuff.

PE>> Also you may have multiple names at your point address, e.g. if you
PE>> run a BBS from the point address like AWL does.

RS> Surely he wont be getting netmail to your system anyway ?

PE> What I mean is if there is another "Paul Markham" on
's BBS,
PE> the netmail will be blocked.

Yeah, thats the only one that I can see is a valid concern. I still dont
think its sufficiently common to warrant the use of a 'solution' which
doesnt fail safe tho.

PE>> Also, if someone is routing netmail through my system, and they send
PE>> a message to "Paul Markham" in Britain, my system will
divert it to
PE>> him.

RS> Can you specify a copy, not just a move ?

PE> No. However, I am unsure whether the "Remap" only operates on mail
PE> addressed to my address, or whether it does it on any mail passing
PE> through my system.

I think its most unlikely to be doing it on pass thrus, purely because
its really only useful for stuff which is addressed to your address.
None of the downstreams would be wanting an upstream system molesting
the addressing detail.
