One other thing to consider: what is the print quality like? If you're
going to dump the printer, why not just keep using it until it really
won't print anymore?

I have a Xerox Phaser 8200 that has been telling me to replace the
"maintenance kit" (Primarly, some parts on the roller that the ink is
put on before applying to paper). This message has been up for almost a
year. I know the printer has enough intelligence to know when the
maintenance kit was replaced and the strangest thing: it happens every
year at the same time. Yes, it knows the date and time as well.

The reason I ignore replacing this is the printer is used so
infrequently. I'm assuming that when Xerox built the "smarts" into this
printer it would be based on FAR more printing than this printer has
even begun to think about.

At any rate, it still prints and just turns the LED orange and displays
the maintenance kit message. Other than that, everything works the same.

Craig.
