Hello Wayne -

CA>>> Hyperterminal PE (personal edition) seems to work well
CA>>> for many and it's free. Alan Zisman swears by it. I use
CA>>> NetTerm because there is no Hyperterminal for W31.

WC> Got it installed. Got a good download and upload last night

Sounds familiar, see other message.

CA>> Grin. I was referring to my brother's need to do graphics
CA>> in PhotoShop and his enjoyment when creating variations of
CA>> his commercial CD-audio collection with _only_ the tracks
CA>> he likes and other software that requires a bit of memory
CA>> to use effectively.

WC> Yeah well Photoshop sure, next door neighbors sister was

WC> the cheap.

There is a little 'trick' to PhotoShop. My brother bought a $70
version from CompUSA and found it wasn't 'newer' than what he
already had. I mentioned it on the W95 echo and Alan Zisman
tells me that the full PhotoShop at $700 is for pros who need
the CMYK(?) color controls to create print-ready work for
printshops. If you don't need the CMYK the $70 version is
identical to the $700 version. Neat trick huh?

WC> RE:Dillo browser

CA>> JAVA or javascript? Javascript (js) needs to be at a
CA>> certain level and I'm not even sure what is the latest
CA>> version but I know you want better than v1.2 js.

WC> Don't recall but that site is due for a visit. Hope the
WC> format for bookmarks is the same in NS 16 bit 4.08 and NS
WC> 7.0 is the same so I can floppy it over to ther new
WC> machine, after having backed up the existing one of course
WC> in case it chokes.

Some day I should borrow some Prozac and write a conversion
utility for all those incompatible bookmarks out there. I'd
make a bunch of money. ;-)

--8<--cut

WC> Me either but I sure won't be buying an HDTV set, a bigger
WC> monitor definately. If I have to make a removable black
WC> mask for the monitor in TV mode so as not to distract no
WC> big deal.

It has been mentioned that the 19" screen really gives only 1"
additional viewing space over the 17" and the 17s are much much
cheaper.

CA>> Hmmmm ... seems to me full USB support was added with
CA>> 'SE'? You might want to ask about the FAT16 and USB in the
CA>> W95 echo?

WC> See nothing on the manual or screen about SE however the
WC> USB ports show as setup, perhaps it's because this is a
WC> H.P. OEM installation?

There are USB v1.0, 1.1, and USB 2. USB 2 is 40x faster than
USB v1.x.

WC>> Not likely, this is a heavy duty stainless steel job of
WC>> the type nurses wheel around with medications or
WC>> defribulators and I doubt they'd want a defribulator
WC>> hitting the floor. As long as the wheels can move I can't
WC>> see any circumstances where it'd tip over.

CA>> Well nothing in the bottom and everything on the top would
CA>> be a start?

WC> No really, I tried to tip it and it's extremely resistant,
WC> in fact I could not do it. Everything but the keyboard and
WC> the speakers are on top.

I'll take your word on this. Just didn't want to hear it all
went KABLOOM on the floor. ;-)
