There isn't really a "process". If you and your link decide to
setup a packet password, and someone misspells it or uses caps when the
other doesn't, it won't be processed by the receiving system. This usually
marks the packet bad and leaves it for the sysop to take a look at and/or
find the solution and fix it.

As long as you and your link setup the packet password the same, there
should be no issue.
