I disagree. .40 and .45 hydrashoks expand with uncanny regularity, even
after penetrating obstacles. The silvertips and Black Talons I tested
against obstacles didn't expand.
Gold dot expanded somewhat, not as well as without the obstacle. No data
on starfire or golden sable (sic).
DA>rotate these out, I will go strictly with factory-loaded Remington 185

Not having tested the .45acp versions I'm totally in conjecture here, but
in Marshall's data of shootings, of all (72) the .45acp 230gr hydrashoks,
the ones fired from a 5" barrel never failed to 'stop' as defined. The
few failures were from the slower velocity ones fired from 4" barrels.
Silvertips do great at high velocities. At .45acp and .380acp they do
not do so well. IMHO, I'd chuck the silvertips, and go with straight
230gr hydrashoks, or Cor-Bon 185gr +p JHPs if you want .40S&W class
energies. (Yes, I had to chuck that one in there...:->)
Now I just need to fugure out what I want to re-qualify my .40S&W with.
I wish I could load up the 180gr hydrashok to 1100-1150 fps... Or just
use the 155gr XTP's loaded up to 1300fps. Or my 135gr Noslers with
delayed expansion to 1400fps.
Any suggestions with standard ammo? The 180gr hydrashok looks good, but
I'd prefer to stay with a lighter, higher energy ammo. The 155gr
hydrashok is not a real reduced load, but it is noticable weaker than the
other 155grs.
