Dave Raymond was overheard saying to Craig Ford, and I quote:
DR> Hi Craig!!! Good to see you in here!!! How are ya?!
Doing well Dave, hope you are as well.
DR> Funny you should mention "Lucent". I work with them daily.
DR> From _MY_ dealings, a very conscientious company. That's
DR> from _MY_ dealings, of course.
Lucent is quite technically astute, albeit a tad arrogant (they are learning
that the world doesn't behold them with the same dumbfounded awe that was
once the case). AT&T's Paradyne division produced in their Comsphere V.32bis
modems, devices that outpaced every other competitor in PSTN performance.
Though they were quite instrumental in developing V.34, and in showing the
way to trans 28.8Kbps signalling rates, the PSTN performance edge can no
longer be claimed. They are now operating without the deep pockets of AT&T
and learning how to compete without a captive market.
DR> So, what do they have to do with the current modem market???
They are a supplier of chipsets to a number of vendors, and a participant in
standards development efforts.
Regards...
Craig
