Positive.  It was the internet.  I believe ARPNET was further back but
still existed later and I think still exists today and is employed on the
internet - which is that actual infrastucture btw - not unlike the www and
now Fido in a smaller way.

I recall attending a seminar about the www back then and at that time I
thought it wasn't needed.  Still don't btw.  Uses too much bandwidth with
far too little meaningful substance.

Right.  'for the populace at large'.  It existed before they riff-raff was
allowed to ruin it for everyone.  ;-)

I realize that.  That was closer to what is currently happening with the
world at large in terms of messaging.  If there was a return to that Fido
would be closer to being in sync.
