Archive availability:
---------------------
Janis Kracht inadvertently posted the .ZIP versions of SNIPPETS and SNIPDIFF
to the PDN. This was partially my fault since I was having trouble with line
noise and had been unable to upload anything else to the ftp site. I'd
suggested she convert the PDN versions to .RAR format, but it slipped through
a crack.
For future reference, following are the versions I distribute to specific
sites. I do this so that folks with different resources always have a source
of an archive they can use.
Site Format
---- ------
snippets.org .ZIP
                        .tar.gz (see below)
juge.com .LZH
(1:106/2000)
PDN .RAR
SimTel .ZIP
I, of course, have no problem if any of these sites wish to carry multiple
formats (after all, it's their hard drive space!) Janis has already indicated
that for at least the immediate future, she'll carry both the .RAR and .ZIP
versions for PDN distribution.
Unix version:
-------------
At snippets.org, I maintain a Unix version of SNIPPETS. There is no Unix
version of SNIPDIFF since SNIPDIFF requires the user to run a DOS utility to
perform the actual update. This also makes sense since ftp transfers will
typically be faster than downloads, obviating the need for SNIPDIFF.
Beginning with the SNIP9707 release, I've switched formats from .tar.Z to
.tar.gz to both save space and to reflect currently deployed technology. The
SNIPPETS Unix archive is unique in two ways:
1. The file names are all in lower case.
2. All SNIPPETS files use a single newline character rather than following
    the DOS CR/LF convention.
Other types:
------------
If anyone has a need for any other type of archive, let me know and I
probably have it on hand. In addition to the preceeding officially-supported
archives, I also keep .ARJ and .tar.Z archives on hand. I can also convert to
.ARC, .SQZ, .PAK, .ZOO, .HAP, .UC2, .DWC, and almost any others upon request.
Then the only problem is delivery...
Selection criteria:
