 Really?  Most of my decade+-old Beta tapes still sound just fine.  I don't
 have many VHS audio tapes that old, but the ones I do have also sound fine.
 Most of the ones that don't were physically damaged by a dying VTR a few
 years back.

 Nor did I, I confess. I seldom use the VTR for archival recording of audio
 these days. I do still use it regularly to time-shift radio programs.
... Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds?
