-> I've been thinking about mounting a 2m mobile antenna on my Toyota
-> Van to use with a basic VHF/UHF scanner. Most of my monitoring is
-> on the VHF/Hi band (139 Mhz - 156 Mhz). The question is: will a 2m
-> antenna function adequately on UHF for receive only? Better or
-> worse that the 'rubber duck' type antenna that came with the radio?
-> Also, I want to use the same antenna with a frequency counter (1 Mhz
-> to 1300 Mhz coverage). The counter came with a 3-segment collapsible
-> antenna with a BNC on the end. Will the above mentioned 2m antenna
-> work with the counter?
I have used a 2 meter Mag mount from Radio Shack for mobile scanning
asnt it works quite well in the VHF Hi badn. Of course the reception
falls off quite a bit on 800 mhz.
-> Does anyone have experience with mounting an antenna on a Toyota Van?
-> It would seem pretty much straight forward, but the van has EFI
-> (electronic fuel injection), and warns about radio equipment. My
-> guess would be RFI induced into the EFI unit. But what about
-> receive only? I can't see this as a problem? ? ? ?
The problems is with Transmitters. the new Engine computerws are quite
susceptable to RFI. And in some cases can be destroyes, A expensive
proposition. For a whiel Toyots didn't recommned installation of any
Transmitter in their cars. But don't worry at all about Recieve only
applications Absolutly NO PROBLEM. AS Far as teh antrenna unless ytuo
want to punch holes go with a Mag Mount. And the BEST location is in the
Middle of the roof to get maximum ground plane effect. Besides the 2
meter antennas there are several Scanner designed mobile antennas
available. And Any of them, Including the 2 meter antenna would be
Better than the "Rubber Duckie" for Mobile Use.
