Maryland signes anti-cloning law.
A new law, Signed by Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening, will make it a crime to 
possess, use or distribute a cloned telephone in that state.  The Maryland
State Police proposed the law, which will take effect on Oct 1.

"In a suit that AirTouch filed, the federal court ruled that the Cellular 
Extension Company was violating FCC orders and regulations that ban the
imitation of ESN's on Cellular Phones"

it's business records pertaining to the altered phones, including the names,
addresses and telephone numbers of entities for whom the company emulated

Comcast Cellular attacks cloning fraud.
Also fighting the war on fraud is Comcast Cellular, Palo Alto CO.  The 
arrier
has begun installing the PhonePrint cellular fraud control system from 
Corsair, Palo Alto CA, in its delaware, New Jersey, and Philadelphia
markets.  PhonePrint uses RF fingerprinting technology to detect and 
disconnect
calls from cloned cellular phones.
