Hi Steven,
MvdV>> Hmmm,.. you pay three times as much per month for the basic
MvdV>> service as I do.
SH> Michiel, I blew the conversion.
I see. Next time remember that a Euro is almost one American Dollar. There
s a few cents diofference but for practical purposes they can be set one it
one. That shoul make it easier for you as I suppose yoy convert to US
dollars more often.
SH> My telephone line which costs me $29.65 Canadian would cost me
SH> $18.62 in Euros.
So you still pay a bit more than I do, but by far not as much as we thought
before. The difference is some 4 Euros. So that is what you pay for your
"free" local calls. According to my latest telephone bill I paid
EUR 1.09 for my non free local calls. So it would appear that I am still
btter off. But...
... They (The ISP's in cohorts with the telcos) pulled another trick to
sqeeze some more money out out of us customers. They have created a special
area code (676) for calls to ISP's. For the moment they are at the same
rate as local calls, but without the 10% frequently called numbers
discount. Last bill shows EUR 5.06 for calls to ISP's. :-(
MvdV>> What it boils down to is that you pay some EUR 30,- a month for
MvdV>> your local calls. That is an interesting definition of
"free".
SH> Since in fact I only pay EUR $18.62 for my telephone access
SH> and pay nothing for local calls in addition to that, I do
SH> rather well.
Yes, you seem to be better off then I am.
MvdV>> The bottom line on my telephone bill for last month was just
MvdV>> under EUR 44. That includes ALL calls.
SH> Don't think you do that well. For EUR 61.88, I get my
SH> telephone connection, no local call charges and ADSL. I do
SH> have to pay for long distance calls on top of that but they
SH> are now cheap as borscht.
Same here. Because my girl lives in Amsterdam a substantial amount of non
local calls goes into that. Some EUR 7,- last month.
I hope you understand now why Fido over the InterNet here is not as
attractive as it is in your place.
Regards, Michiel
