Beef in lumps, no.  Even at the height of the (often irrational) UK scare,
no one seriously advocated avoiding steaks, roasts, etc.  I didn't.  A lot
of my personal cookery is based on mince (ground beef) and I used a trusted
butcher.  Most of the supermarkets made it clear that their mince was made
from whole flesh.

Beef in a rendered "product" - be it hamburgers, stock cubes,
ready made lasagne, etc., perhaps.  A lot was "recovered meat" -
blasted off the carcass with high-pressure water jets.  Long since banned
for human consumption over here.
