It has been a while since I purchased a new HP 11 cartridge for this
printer, but ALL of the cartridges I am using are WAY past the
expiration date on the cartridge and the printer still accepts them when
I put a refilled cartridge in it.

The newer HP 3000 series printers use a larger cartridge, the HP 12
cartridge, and that one may have a dated expiration date that is read by
the printer.
