Well i don't know if the freq. you are using it anything like a CB radio in 
regards to tx * but i know that a swr of 1.7 to 1 is virtually perfect due to 
the fact that on the listening end the other guy will not know the difference 
between that and a pefect match which is impossible no matter what your meter 
says * I know when i first started out i tried like crazy to get swrs low 
like say flat (everybody wants that including me ) and wasted alot of time 
and energy to  reach an swr 1-1 that didn't matter anyways now extreme swrs 
are a problem when the meter deflects both ways on forward swing and 
calibration you have got an antenna problem * don't get me wrong if i had a 
flat swr and say 2-1 id take the better but if all other things are correct 
and set up properly the guy on the other end will never know the difference *
