as it has been on OS/2, use SIO with vmodem providing the virtual modem
port for the software to talk to... i still use SIO 1.60D (or whatever the
last release of that one was) on eCS...

on winwhatever, netserial and/or netfossil are the packages to be used...
both are from mike ehlert at pcmicro... he's a long time bbs sysop and beta
tester of various bbs packages...
