GV> yeah, just typed it wrong :) i compiled it under A86 does that make
GV> a differance? i have a program called Bootrite.com, that writes
uhm a86 should work fine.. at least, that's what I used..
GV> ok, i read yesterday that there sposed to be loaded at 07c0h
GV> i saw it said sumthing like this:
GV> Mov Ax,7c0h
GV> Mov Ds,Ax
GV> Mov SS,Ax
GV> Mov Es,Ax
I'm not too sure about this, but in this book i've got (Using Assembly
Language by Allen L Wyatt) it's got a routine for formatting disks for use
under DOS, and therefore it has some simple boot sector code which it writes
to the disk that says insert bootable disk etc etc.. Now the first lines of
code in this boot sector that are actually executed are
mov ax, 7c0h
mov ds, ax
mov es, ax
and it has a comment saying 'standard loading place for boot sector' so I can
only guess that that is where the BIOS loads the boot sector into memory, so
maybe put that code in, just in case (although i never put it in and mine
still worked) Anyone else got any information here?
