subject: Using counters

Hi y'all;
I have a question on using counters.
I used a counter to increment a series of problem numbers on a
homework assignment. The assignment had four sections, each numbered
from one to eight. I was able to setup the style to correctly count
the first section. But then I had problems with resetting the count
for all the sections thereafter.
For instance, between the sections I have a header line. I *thought*
that by including a count set command, I could reset the counter.
But, no matter how I did it, the count resumed where it left off as
if the style having the 'count inc/display' kept the number to itself.
This was most frusterating, the only work around was to have
*separate* styles using different counters! Surely, there is a better
(the right) way of doing this.
P.S. - I thought of using multi-levels, but I'm not working on an
outline. I just want to count up, then reset so I can count again.
Any ideas or suggestions?
