There is a wide range of racing boats in our fleets. They range
from various dinghies on Monday night to a wide variety of
displacement boats for Thursday.
The boat I sail on Thursdays is more of a pocket cruiser, 25'
and about 4,500 pounds of keel. We're at the bottom of the B
Fleet, but generally come in first, if not correct out! We
also race against a Cal 24, a Cal 26 and a McGreggor 26.
The A fleet has a couple of J-24s, an S-2 and a 1/2 tonner that
got here from Lake Michigan.
In C fleet, there is an assortment of heavyweight cruisers, with
2 Westsails always duking it out.
However, a good part of the fun, aside from the race itself, is
the fun at the Pot Luck dinners after the races. There's one
more of them this Thursday, but no racing.... :( It's the
awards ceremony and should be a good time. Quite often, the
party is joined by powerboaters, as well as people that have
never been on a boat in their life.
Also, throughout the year, various cruises are schedulded, with
just about any assortment of the above boats joing in. BTW, at
least 2 of the above boats are crewed by the owners kids. Most
of the dinghy fleet is also skippered by the younger sailors.
I am starting to race with my daughter on our C-Lark with them..
Now, to get myself a bigger boat and do some cruising!
... Hell with Starboard! We weigh SEVEN TONS!
