-> NICAM as far as I know is only in the UK (Although I may be wrong!)
-> It is a digital audio signal transmitted with the video signal, that
-> means all five (wow!) of our TV channels! have CD quality stereo
-> sound.
-> But both my VCR's only record in Analogue so if you record something
-> from this source and play it back it's supposed to be degraded
-> (probably is) but so
AFAIK, there's no NICAM here. If you could find a Beta (good luck) and
establish whether it had a bitstream input, you could keep your recording
digital all the way. By the way, I'm an analog kind of guy myself--LP's,
turntables, that sort of stuff. Digital is much better now than it was
fifteen years ago, when the CD came out.
I have an LP released by Yamaha in 1977, I think. The master tape was done
digitally. A similar item was Stevie Wonder's first digital record, "Hotter
Than July", from 1980. I mean digital master tape, of course. They can't beat
an all-analog recording chain. Time marches on.
I used to be an audiophile, but I'm in recovery now. I've come to the
conclusion that as long as you enjoy the music, that's the important part.
Yours, Blair
