FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) Sky Marshals have been present aboard
commercial airliners since the program's inception in the
nineteen-seventies.  It was only a few years before the terrorist attacks
of September 11th that the program suffered a major budget cut, reducing it
to a shell of it's former self.
