I agree that the convention did vote, at the national's
direction, to use resources on the Magoo matter, and that it did
not vote to use our resources for the redistribution of A.C.B.
materials, However, the convention also did not vote on building
bedrooms in the
center along with all the accompanying support they required at an
expense
of about 1.5 million dollars, but we have them.
It also didn't vote on keeping the materials center open only
during the hours of 12-30 P.M. till 5 P.M . Eastern time, but it is
being done that way.
The clear sense of the convention in 1990, the way I and many
others saw it, was not to return to the Hyatt-regency D.F.W. in
1993 but we did and are doing so again next year.
In fact, I have heard many objections to both the latter items I
mentioned, but they are our policy nevertheless.
Again, I am well aware that we elect officers and a board of
directors and hire an Executive Director to do certain jobs
between conventions and it is not practical for the membership to
vote on every issue any more than it is for the public at large
to vote on every political issue and I don't think any member of
this organization expects this, but we shouldn't tote this
banner that the convention did or didn't vote on a given issue
only when it suits the national leadership's convenience.
I've always been curous to know what would happen if we could
have electronic voting at our conventons wherein everyone would
have an individual private vote how much of the national agenda
would pass? I think in that situation, it would be doing well to
get half its agenda.
