 Re:Radar signature.
  It was a combination of things I am led to believe. It was its speed,
its maneuvars, its size (?), and most importantly, its areas of
apparent interest. Namely, the most high-tech & sensitive areas
existant in the world at that time period.
  Plus, post WWII nerves certainly played a part.
