-> You forgot to ask why am I on this echo:-) Yep stamps is my hobby
-> and pseudo business as well. You can't take a chancd on putting
-> stamps in a rural mail box so I have a po box in Ottawa. I am also
-> into Photography, metal work, wood work, gardening, carpentry,
-> computers, and now it seems landscaping. I own a piece of a decent
-> sized swamp that i play with as well. I have been building and
-> dreaming models for as far back as I can picture. I have several
-> finished, some on the go and some still waiting to be done, typical
-> with the exception that I have never flown an RC successfully, I
-> don't really try that hard and don't mind. I am building a new shop
-> and air field right now but that coule end up as a potting shed and
-> garden as easy as not. I made the speed controls because I have a
-> PTE and the thing doesn't seem to want to fly. Its got all the bits
-> correct except thet the weight is supposed to be 48 oz nad the weight
-> is 48 oz. That seemed a little close to me so I wanted to cut down on
-> the weight. this switch removed a servo and toggle as well as a
-> couple of inches of wire. I also wanted to cut my own boards and
-> looked at this as an opportunity to get that experience. The boards
-> were advertised for three bucks US, but I wanted to do my own. I
-> still have not tried that plane again but one day..

You still haven't flown an RC successfully! Don't give up, just
try electric gliders! Personnally, I took, what I think to have been a
long time to learn how to fly. And I'm still learning. I still get the
gitters whenever I pitch my E-glider into the wind and switch the motor
on. I think, in my opinion anyway, that electric gliders are the way to
start. Of course, I really started with just a glider, but that didn't
last long. I got tired of chasing after the parachute at the end of the
bungee cord and decided to cut the nose of the bird and fit in one of
those cheap can motor/gear drive units. I never regretted it.
Some of the guys at the field would say, "No, don't do that for
god sakes, it'll turn into a bomb" And from the first few flights, it
did look like I was flying a bomb. The extra weight turned into extra
speed. MAN did it go! Today, I'm still flying sorta kamakazee like a
bit, especially if I haven't flown in awhile, but now my planes are
actually surviving my "rough" landings. That's mainly why I went from
wood planes to fiberglass birds. They're a little heavier, but man can
they withstand the extra punishment. Especially the extra few "bumps"
the come from a biginner. At least now when I crash it breaks into two
peices instead of a million wood chips (much harder to repair I think!)
With an electric, you can shut off the motor whenever you want
and just glide back down. Each time going a little higher, until you
feel confident enough to LET'ER RIP.
Anyway, I hope you like the stamps, they were the only ones I had around
at the time.
My time ran out so catcha soon!
