Coz it was a long way from help. By the time the help could have arrived
the NK fighters would have been gone.

OK it was some distance out from NK so the NK fighters would have been
operating at or near max range (AFAIK NK has no air2air refueling tankers
(though they could do fighter 2 fighter buddy but no proof of that))

So it was a question of sit tight & know you have more fuel than them.
It was a message that they knew where these planes were & at some range
from NK

& re the targeting bit.........how should I put this.....put just one of the
mig at the 6 o clock of the converted 707 & you have achieved
targetting as simple canons would do the job & 707 vs Mig29/23 ain't
much sport.

I'm sure it was. The fact that it was so far out was part of the message
(we can see you & we can get to you....a long way out).

Tornado F3'es (& before that F4 phantoms) did that job to the north of
the UK for years.......
