| subject: | Re: [OS2HW] Partition Trouble or #{at}&&%...%#!!! Windows! |
Hello
While my question has to do with a software application, it is at least
half to do with OS/2 and perhaps some to do with hardware, so I hope it is
sufficiently on-topic enough to elicit some aid or at least some opinions.
Problem - booted to windows after an uptime outside windoze of over 3
months. Had a network problem and the driver for the nic was located on a
newly installed 160G drive which windoze complained about. Decided to let
Norton Disk Doctor straighten out the Fat32 partitions when it asked if I
was having problems accessing that drive (BTW I wasn't in either Linux or
OS/2) but since the last time I got that message and turned it down I had
lost my Fat32 partitions, this time I said OK. I got back the 2 Fat32
partitions and an ext3 primary partition was undisturbed BUT 2 ext3 logical
partitions and an LVM created HPFS partition were gone - phoooey.
Solution? - I have a little familiarity with DFsee and also GPart both of
which I understand are capable of discovering/rebuilding partition tables.
However GPart warns that it has problems with ext/logical partitions and
frankly as the HPFS partition was simply storage for backup files awaiting
burn to CD (of which I have others only a month old) I am most worried
about the ext3 partition. Does anybody have any suggestions considering I
have written down the exact sizes and sequence (however not exact cyl/sect)
of all partitons on all drives as to how I best might attempt to get any or
all of these non-doze partitons back? Are GPart and DFSee the best tools
for non-dos type partitions? I also have PQMagic v8 which handles ext3 but
alas not HPFS but I still have a heavily updated v3 PQMagic for OS/2 stuff
as well.
Thanks
Jimmy
