GJO>primary craft, where are not impossibilities. 'Huge accelerations' do
ot

GJO>your craft solving lots of potential physical complications) and

GJO>the trip time. and finally collision between particles is not an

GJO>feat to overcome. The density between the stars is about 1 atom per
ubic
GJO>metre or so, hardly an impossibility for construction design.
First of all, when Columbus traveled to the West Indies he wasn't
thinking of a one way trip. Comunication is the bases of human comunity
and if it's eliminated, the comunity stops to exist. A one way trip
would couse just that. And you can't accelerate to c - molecules
breaking up and stuff can cause a problem :) I don't think your
exlonation has any scientific explonation basis either. At a constant
acceleration of 1g it would require tremondous ammounts of energy at
speed over 0.5c. And travelling at 0.99c, the space get's compressed
pretty much around the spacecraft (it's not just the spacecraft that
"compressed" due to speed but the entire Universe is compressed as well
- ie. for a photon, the Universe doesn't exist; it has 0 length :).
This means that your 1atom/m3 of space actually get's pretty large - I
can't provide you with a value because I'm too lazzy to calculate it
right now. :)
PS Relativity states that spacetime "compression" is relative to the
frame reference. For a spaceship a universe will not be compressed but
when you accound time dialation, the spacetime will _appear_ to be
compressed.
                spacetime "compression" + time dialation = k <- some
                                                                constant
