So your telecom company has put some thinghs in one of your rooms. I don't recall whether we are dealing with ADLS or CABLE. But as you are speaking about a "modem", I have to assume it's adsl. - So your telecom company (or you) has installed a splitter (is that the thing you are calling "switch"?). - From the splitter, there should lead one wire to the router. - To the router, should be attached the "basement computer" AND the "ground floor" computer (lan1 and lan2 for example) . Now, you should: 1. As another fellow already told, reset the router. To reset the router is the only means for a simple human being to get back on track (assuming you're a simple human being too ofcoz). 2. Alter in "basement computer" as well as in the "ground floor" computer the setup.cmd to: route -fh arp -f ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1 dhcpstrt -i lan0 -d 20 ipgate off and be sure any Injoy thing is out of memory, mpts, config.sys etc... etc... NOJOY AT ALL!!! shutdown -power off - start again both computers. While both are attached to the router of course. 3. When during boot you'll get a message "DHCP could not get parameters ..... etc" or the router isn't by default set to DHCP, or your network cards aren't bounded to IBM TCPIP. Easy to check the latter, and if things are right there, we are almost sure the problem is the router. 4. And from here we will at least know what we are talking about. Again, be sure there isn't any JOY anywhere around. To play it safe, take a full backup of each INJOY-ed boot partition. -- Groeten uit Gent, Kris http://www.taartenbakkerij.com/bestanden/warpstock-europe-2005-dresden.jpg http://www.taartenbakkerij.com/bestanden/zum_weberplatz.jpg Yahoo!
